The final day of racing in Porto Cervo concluded with two additional heats and Luca Dominici on Mefisto winning the final event of the 2009 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series. Taking the championship title was Benedetto Giallongo on Value Team. Giallongo's success is attributed to winning the first four regattas - Lerici, Scarlino, Malcesine and Cagliari.

After the first day and only one race, Luca Dominici on Mefisto took charge of the fourteen-strong, highly-competitive Audi Melges 20 fleet. In second overall is Fausto Rubbini on Thule and Antonello Morina on Sei Tu in third. This is the final event in the 2009 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

August 23 — On the final day of racing, Eric Wynsma from East Grand Rapids, Mich. on Superfly was crowned the first ever Audi Melges 20 U.S. National Champion. Along with his crew of Wally Cross and JP de Solar, they took the last day, light air conditions and the overnight lead from Pieter Taselaar on Bliksem. He just barely beat out Marc Hollerbach on Blackjack from Grosse Point, Mich. along with his sons Ian and Adam tied with equal points in second overall. Taselaar, with Michael Coxon and Williem Van Way finished in third overall.
