Riva del Garda Set to Bring Out the Best at 2018 Melges 20 World League

Riva del Garda Set to Bring Out the Best at 2018 Melges 20 World League

Riva del Garda, Italy (July 18, 2018) - The International Melges 20 Class Association (IM20CA), returns to race at one of the most classic and highly-awaited events of the season, that of Riva del Garda for the fourth event of the 2018 Melges 20 World League, European Division. Lake Garda holds a very special place in the history of the Melges 20, and one of the many reasons is the exceptional attendance level. Almost 50 teams will be racing this weekend as the International fleet anticipates the World Championship in October.

The event starts on Friday, July 20 and concludes on Sunday, July 22 with the strongest teams in the world aiming to position themselves as the ruler of the 2018 Melges 20 World League circuit. Until now, there has not been a team that has dominated, so the field of competition is very open.

Therefore, there will be a clash of the titans between reigning World Champion, Drew Freides aboard the U.S.-based PACIFIC YANKEE, and the current European Champion and holder of the 2017 Melges World League title, Igor Rytov at the helm of RUSSIAN BOGATYRS.

For two teams in particular though, the challenge may be normal for Filippo Pacinotti's BRONTOLO, and current Melges 20 World League ranking leader Vladimir Prosikhin's NIKA.

To complete the ‘first row' of this regatta, Achille Onorato's MASCALZONE LATINO JR. and Dario Levi's FREMITO D'ARJA are also present and aiming to be victorious this weekend.

In the Corinthian category, the fight is ongoing with Italy's Marco Giannini at the helm of SIDERVAL in the division lead — only a step away from the overall top ten.

The Melges World League is supported by Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, North Sails, Toremar, Lavazza, Rigoni di Asiago and Melges Europe

Melges World League has signed and adopts the code of ethics of the Charta Smerarlda strongly promoting the values of One Ocean Foundation.
